Understanding contribution of GAS pharyngitis in the context of high impetigo prevalence
Investigators: Asha Bowen, Anna Ralph, Bart Currie, Claudia Sampson, David Atkinson, Jonathan Carapetis, Steve Tong.
Aims: This project aims to determine the current burden of impetigo and Group A Streptococcus (GAS) pharyngitis in Aboriginal children in northern Australia, and to understand the contribution of GAS pharyngitis when impetigo prevalence is high.
Timelines: Community consultation, Human Research Ethics Committee application, tool development, and pilot surveillance currently underway. Intensive surveillance expected in 2018; completion and final results expected 2019.
