Professor David Atkinson
Professor Atkinson is head of the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia, based in Broome and responsible for the 14 RCSWA medical teaching sites across rural and remote WA. He works closely with the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services on a wide range of research projects.
Professor Atkinson was a chief investigator for the gECHO RHD screening study and the Rheumatic Fever Follow Up Study (RhFFUS). His current research includes the ISAC CRE (Improving Health Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children), a project examining screening for perinatal mental health and a project looking at improving dental care in remote Aboriginal children.
He is an experienced medical educator and member of the Clinical Advisory Group for the WA RHD control program.
